Small Business Owners with Music Service! Muzak, Ipod, XM?
Are there any small business owners out there who have purchased a music service for their store/shop?
During construction of my shop, I was paid a uncomfortable visit from a Muzak sales rep. Not knowing anything about music rights, I mentioned that we were going to use an ipod for the background music. He assured me that it would not work and at the same time illegal.
Has anyone been turned in or gotten in trouble from this? What do they ask to see?
I am now looking to purchase XM Business service.

In this very bad economy- I’d not blow a lot of bucks on things like music- BUT then again I have no idea about your shop.
I have a nice open gallery and my ipod on a JBL speaker (small circle one) and it really does the trick. In fact there is no way that I play it as loud as it can go- I’d blow the windows out!
Don’t be pressured to spend more money than you need- you can always do other things later. Experience your location for a year, so you can really know what you need.
io4business background music service is a nice option. It connects via the Internet and therefore does not require a satellite or other line of site.
There are no contracts and it is simple easy to use. And yes, it covers the licensing requirements for commercial use.

The muzak sales rep is correct about the licensing… but don’t let him push you around. Muzak offers terrible service at an overpriced monthly subscription.
I was fooled into their services a few years ago but have since converted to XM For Business. Best decision of my life!
