    Hi Susan,

Online video is KEY to the success of your small business. First it helps differentiate you from your competitors. You can think of online video like websites 10 years ago…you were unique if you had a website and it gave you the competitive edge. The same applies for online video.

Second, video is an excellent way for your customers to get to know you. It gives a personal touch to your brand because your customers can see you, get to know you (especially if you publish videos frequently), and they will get to like you very quickly. This will build the trusting relationship which is needed for customers to buy from you. People buy from people they know, like, and trust. Online video covers all three.

Online video can also help you rank well in the search engines, especially if you use tags related to your location (your city, state, etc) when publishing your videos on YouTube and other online video sharing sites. Also the point below about the mRSS is also a great one and helps with your search engine rankings.

Ok, now you get a feel about the value of online video…I just want to mention something very important. Online video is extremely FUN and ADDICATIVE – and is relatibvely SIMPLE if you choose to keep things simple (which I highly recommend). You can do most of the work yourself. Here are 7 free videos that walk you through the steps of creating your first YouTube video to market your business online:

If it’s something you like enough you can likely make it that way. :)

Most definitely! I work specifically with small businesses so you should know that it isn’t as expensive as you may think to incorporate video into your web presence. It is important to point out that videos on youtube and such is not all it is cracked up to be. You have to know if people are searching for your services or products there. If you put the proper tags, description, and backlinks to the videos, they should come up on the search engines, though. Also, a fantastic way to use video is as a guide or list of tips. The way to incorporate video is to have them hosted on youtube and other VSEOs (Video search engines), embed them on your site and develop a mRSS (media RSS) feed. Submit that feed to iTunes so that you get exposure in the podcasts. Search engines find those feeds if they are syndicated correctly! So, yes video should be a consideration for you. I use video to help my clients’ conversion on their search engine marketing campaigns…Let’s say you have a PPC campaign…when folks visit your "landing page", video helps them understand your offer and builds trust in your company.

I don’t feel that online video marketing will help a lot to promote your business online. It will just give a minimal rise in your business. Since its a small local service business i would suggest to you to try submitting your business to some business directories online. Thats a great method as you get a good Search engine rank for your site too. Directory submission should be done carefully to good quality directories only. Or else it is just useless. Its difficult to find such good directories. I would recommend http://www.directory.ac/ to you. Thats the best directory listing for businesses that i have found in net.
